About Our Nursery

We help you partner with plants to grow an abundance of food and medicine in a truly sustainable way.

“Sustainable is defined as a system which over its lifetime produces energy equivalent to or in excess of what it consumes”

Bill Mollison – 1978

A little history

Our nursery’s context in the Bronx, NY is influenced from history starting hundreds of years ago. In 1639, Swedish captain Jonas Bronck, sailed to a Dutch colony now known as New York City. He acquired 500 acres of very fertile land that belonged to the Mohegan people. People would later visit “The Bronck House” which is why we now call it “The Bronx”. Farms in the Bronx grew food for NYC residents for hundreds of years. With rapid urban growth there is no longer space for traditional farms.

How we grow

Despite the space restrictions, our family is able to grow thousands of productive plants on a tiny city lot. We’re able to do this because our reach extends far beyond our property. We gather cuttings and seed from select mother plants in neighboring family properties and public parks in the Bronx. We’re also not shy about shipping in plant material from other great nurseries.

Out of love for all life on this earth, we do not use pesticides, synthetic fertilizer, or excessive plastic. We challenge ourselves to work with, rather than against nature; and hope to inspire others to do the same.

Let’s grow together

When you buy from us, you’re buying from a family who’s invested in your success to grow food and medicine in a healthy way. Please let us know if you have any questions, so that we can grow together!
